What can we do together in the fight against childhood obesity? Let’s start by involving kids in a hands-on environment that actually focuses on preparing healthy foods. The goal of the Junior Leagues’ Kids in the Kitchen initiative, which is supported by The Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. and its member Leagues, is to promote child health and wellness by empowering children and youth to make healthy lifestyle choices, therefore preventing obesity and its associated health risks.
In the 2018-2019 League year, the Junior League of High Point, Inc. will partner with the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club of High Point and the Millis Regional Educational Center to host a program for local schoolchildren aimed at healthy eating and living. This workshop educates children on nutrition and helps them make healthy meal decisions. We will discuss using produce from community gardens to add nutritional value to their meals, as well as focus on the role of exercise in optimal physical and mental health.
